US$691 million matures this Monday and US$689 million on Wednesday. Amid the tensions over the rise in parallel dollars and the fall in reserves, Máximo Kirchner asked this Sunday to "renegotiate" the agreement with the IMF to refinance the US$44 billion loan from 2018. Amid the tensions over the rise in parallel dollars and the fall in reserves,

Máximo Kirchner

asked this Sunday to

"renegotiate"

the agreement with the IMF to refinance the US$44 billion loan from 2018.

In this way, it

opened a new front of conflict

prior to the maturities that the Government will have to face from this Monday with the organization for a total of US$ 1,380 million.

"We are in February of an electoral year and we have to explain to society what is next, because

this expiration route is unpayable

. We have to

renegotiate

the agreement due to the consequences of the war and I want to notify those who support those arguments that the Argentine Congress voted for the agreement on March 15 and that the war began on February 25. Why did they vote for that, if the numbers had already skyrocketed?" said Cristina Kirchner's son.

Sergio Massa with Kristalina Georgieva, Director of the IMF.

After taking vacations in the south, the head of La Cámpora reappeared in an interview published this Sunday by El Cohete a la luna, the outlet directed by the journalist Horacio Verbitsky, where he again pointed out against the Extended Facilities agreement signed in March of 2022, questioned the lack of "toughness" of former minister Martín Guzmán and insisted on the opening of a "political table" of the Frente de Todos with the supposed wink of

Sergio Massa

.

The Government must pay

US$691 million

this Monday and another

US$689 million

on Wednesday for the

Stand By

negotiated by the management of Mauricio Macri.

Reserves

will thus come back under pressure

in a delicate context due to the impact of the drought on the supply of foreign currency and the reduction of reserves by US$ 2.3 billion during January, to which must be added the acceleration of inflation and the drop in activity in November.

That month, during the G20 summit in Indonesia, the minister and the President told the head of the Fund that the war with Ukraine cost Argentina US$5 billion.

They also asked for a rate cut, a measure that was rejected by the agency in December, and two weeks ago, Massa reiterated that "the IMF is not complying with Argentina in reviewing how they are going to compensate the countries that paid the cost of the war ".

The Government comes from exceeding the goals in 2022 with

accounting tricks

, selective devaluations and the easing of some requirements by the Fund.

In fiscal matters, it accumulated a primary deficit of 2.4% of GDP, below the ceiling of 2.5%.

But Juntos por el Cambio denounced on Saturday the situation of

"extreme vulnerability"

of the economy and that the deficit was reduced due to the "delay" of salaries and pensions in the face of inflation.

Máximo Kirchner responded that "if we really want a better future, there is no other option than to review compliance with this agreement with the Fund."

"We want to discuss this, in a sphere that includes the opposition. If they want to govern Argentina, there must be a minimum agreement," he said.

"Imagine if Larreta, Massa, De Pedro, Fernández, Cristina, Manes and even the left appeared before the IMF and said: 'We can't do this'", he assured.

In Economy, they decided to keep a low profile - "without comment" - while from the environment of the vice president they linked the statements of the leader of La Cámpora with that "the next government is going to have to start by renegotiating the debt."

For the time being, this year the primary deficit will have to be lowered to 1.9% of GDP, with a monetary issue ceiling of 0.6% of GDP to assist the Treasury and the accumulation of US$4.8 billion in reserves.

In terms of debt, Máximo Kirchner warned that "2024, 2025, 2026 and the requirement of all those maturities are going to come upon us."

Those years will have to face payments with the Fund for US$7,318, US$2,781 and US$3,922 million.

All in all, the most demanding will be 2023, since US$20.5 billion must be paid, including interest.

And in September 2024, the last of the 10 revisions provided for in the current agreement falls.

The Government had already begun in December to exchange projections with the agency for the first quarter of 2023, in view of the fourth review, which was scheduled to start in mid-January.

Unlike 2022, this year's maturities will exceed disbursements (US$15,958 million) and greater private external debt will be added, including commercial and financial loans.

With reserves at the limit, Massa will have to obtain a

waiver

from the Fund or obtain an exception for the war, given the difficulties in canceling commitments with fiscal surpluses.

The other source of foreign currency, in addition to new editions of the soybean dollar, could be the credits that it negotiates with foreign banks (Repo) for US$ 2,500 million and the financing of Brazil for the payment of imports.
