The effort continues to save the "Lahabim Technologies" plant in Nahariya from closure and thus prevent the dismissal of its 900 employees.

Yesterday evening, a meeting was held between the Minister of Defense, Yoav Galant, and the chairman of the Western Galilee region of the Histadrut, Asher Shmueli, his deputy Zion Yehiali, the chairman of the workers' council, Farid Said, and the former CEO of Lahavim Technologies, Amos Greenbaum.

At the meeting, Galant was presented with the annual procurement data of the Ministry of Defense from the plant's American parent company, "Pratt & Whitney", which is considered one of the largest jet engine manufacturers in the world, which stands at $800 million per year. The participants asked Gallant to put pressure on the company, also against the background of the Ministry of Defense's intention to purchase 25 F15I aircraft Improved, a deal that would include 55 jet engines, and Pratt & Whitney is one of their two possible suppliers, in addition to General Electric

Contacts that are not clear if they will mature

From the moment it announced its intention to stop the production of compressor blades in Israel, according to it because they are outdated, there is no demand for them and the plant is not profitable, Pratt & Whitney refused - according to the workers' representatives - to respond to requests from companies that were interested in purchasing it from it, out of considerations of preventing competition.

Only recently did negotiations begin with four entities that are interested in the purchase, but these are in very early stages.

At the end of the meeting, Galant ordered to hold an urgent meeting with the new head of the Defense Ministry's procurement director, Ze'ev Landau, in which the Histadrut would present its position to him.

This is in order to help promote the purchase of the factory from the Americans, which will prevent its closure and provide future procurement of engines for the Israeli Air Force, by selling the factory.
