Due to the strong weight of services in the spending of Buenos Aires households, the measurement of inflation for January in the City of Buenos Aires
was 7.3%
.
And in 12 months
it accumulates an increase of 99.4%
, according to the Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of CABA.
Clarín anticipated on Saturday that the January measurement would be around 7% due to the incidence of services (58.59%) in the general average index,
affecting the middle class sectors to a greater extent.
The 7.3% breaks down into a
rise of 8.8% in the prices and rates of services
and 5.2% in Goods.
Four sectors had double-digit increases last month.
They were Information and Communication (12.1%), Restaurants and Hotels (11.6%), Transportation (11.1%), and Recreation and Culture (10.6%).
Food prices
increased 6.1%
, and, at the other end, with only 0.6%, the Education sector, due to school
holidays.
With the increases in January, Restaurants and Hotels accumulated an increase of 118.5% in 12 months, followed by Clothing and Footwear (112.4%) and Home Equipment and Maintenance (106.9%), Education (106 .5%) and Food and beverages (103.9%).
In the City of Buenos Aires, housing expenses (such as rents and expenses), water, electricity, gas and other fuels contribute 17.43% to the index, slightly more than food (17.13%).
The same goes for transportation.
In CABA it weighs 11.44%.
Health weighs 8.7% in CABA –due to the weight of prepaid.
And Restaurants and Hotels weigh 9.58% in the Buenos Aires CPI.
What has been happening in recent months is that the prices and fees for services have been rising above those for goods.
For example, in December in the City, services increased 6.1% and goods, 5.2%.
Applying the weights
, the Buenos Aires index showed an average of 5.8% versus 5.1% of the INDEC at the national level
.
A difference of plus or minus 0.7 points.
In January the gap widened,
with services with a rise of 8.8% and 5.2 in goods.
And this was due to the fact that last month there were increases in public transport fares, mobile phone services and vehicle prices.
In Health, the increase in prepaid (6.9%) and the values of medicines and the increases related to recreation and tourism stood out.
The increase of 7.3% is the highest level since July of last year
, when it reached 7.7%.
Then it went down and both in November and December they marked 5.8%.
