The railway and transport union (EVG) is demanding at least 650 euros more wages in this year's railway wage round.
The collective bargaining committees of the union in Fulda decided on this minimum amount.
According to information from trade union circles, an increase of twelve percent is to be implemented for the higher remuneration.
325 euros are required for the junior staff.
The EVG is the largest union at Deutsche Bahn.
The requirement applies not only to the state-owned company, but to a total of around 50 railways.
The EVG message says: More than 300 colleagues from a wide variety of collective bargaining committees come together in Fulda.
The train drivers' union GDL does not negotiate for its members until October.
The current collective agreement expires at the end of February.
In the face of inflation, it's the highest demand the union has ever made.
Joint campaigns by EVG and Ver.di
This puts the EVG above the requirements that Ver.di raises for the public service at the federal and local level.
Here are 10.5 percent, but at least 500 euros on the slip.
The two unions want to coordinate their industrial action.
EVG boss Martin Burkert had already shown himself to be combative at the start of the consultations of the wage commissions: "There is a change in the weather in the air," he said: "Spring is going to be hot and here and now we are heating up the boiler.
I'm looking forward to the steam, the fire and the heat.«
