In view of the extensive job cuts at the publishing house Gruner + Jahr by the parent company Bertelsmann, the editor-in-chief of the magazine »Geo« is taking action.
According to SPIEGEL information, editors-in-chief Jens Schröder and Markus Wolff have resigned from their posts with immediate effect.
Die Zeit had initially reported on the step.
As the media services Turi2 and Medieninsider report, "Stern" editor-in-chief Gregor Peter Schmitz is now also to assume responsibility for "Geo" and the business magazine "Capital".
In the future, the three titles will be run as an independent unit under the umbrella of RTL News GmbH.
Bertelsmann board member Thomas Rabe announced on Tuesday that around 700 jobs would be cut at Gruner + Jahr.
A total of 23 titles are discontinued and many more are sold.
The figurehead "Geo" is to be retained, but a total of ten offshoots such as "Geo Knowledge" or "Geo Season" are being scrapped.
