2023 will be a "

difficult year

" because "

a lot of work is to be expected

" announced Valérie Pécresse in January, while Beyoncé fans accuse her of being responsible for the absence of a second concert date, due to of work on the RER B. In total, 1,000 sites should see the light of day, with a peak this summer.

In question, the organization of the Olympic Games in 2024 as well as the continuation of the Grand Paris Express.

Le Figaro

takes stock of the work of the busiest network in Europe.

Metros on the front line

Three metro lines are currently affected by the works.

The automation of line 4 continues this year.

Closures will take place two to three evenings a week in the evening and on certain Sunday mornings.

Due to its extension, line 11 is also closed in the evening from Tuesday to Thursday inclusive, until the end of September.

Six new stations will be created.

Finally, line 14 is still affected by works for the Grand Paris Express and the 2024 Olympics. It must be extended to Orly airport and Saint-Denis Pleyel where the Olympic village is to be built.

Interruptions therefore take place in the evening during the week and even during the day on certain weekends.

With more than 200 km of lines, the Grand Paris Express project will, for its part, make it possible to connect the suburbs more quickly to create a single, interconnected network.

In addition to the extension of the 14 to the north and south of Paris, four new metro lines should see the light of day by 2030. With 170 projects underway, the president of the Société du Grand Paris nevertheless indicated that the project will be "

a few months

" late.

RER, Transilien and trams not spared

Renovation, maintenance or extension of lines, the RER and the Transilien will be subject to closures and numerous traffic interruptions in the evening and during the day.

The Île-de-France network indeed needs a significant "

volume of work

" to "

modernize

", justifies Matthieu Chabanel, CEO of SNCF network, during the Île-de-France press conference. mobilities.

Thus, more than 163 km of tracks will be renewed.

The RER B, whose operation is shared between the RATP and the SNCF, is undergoing "

heavy

" work, considered "

essential

" by the president of the RATP, Jean Castex.

In the fall alone, track renewal work will take place between Aulnay and Mitry.

RER C, D and E are also affected.

For example, the Saint-Michel Notre-Dame station of the RER C remains closed until April.

On the RER E, due to the extension of the line to Nanterre, traffic will be interrupted between certain stations.

Regarding the Ile-de-France region, almost all lines are affected.

On line R, due to work on the tracks and at Moret station, traffic interruptions are expected between Paris Gare de Lyon and stations such as Montereau or Montargis.

Ile-de-France residents of line J are also particularly affected by the works with early closures at the start of the evening and alternative routes which would be poorly organized, denounces the association of users "

Plus de trains

" in a letter addressed to the administrators of 'IDF mobility.

The trams are much less affected by the works.

Note that the T4 line is closed between Bondy and Aulnay-sous-Bois as well as the Montfermeil Hospital in the evening until July 7.

Further work is expected this year.

Necessary but constraining projects

The work allows long-term improvements for Ile-de-France residents: trains that are more punctual but also more comfortable.

The network, already old, suffered from "

underinvestment

" from the 1980s to the 2000s, according to the CEO of SNCF network.

The priority is therefore to its regeneration, that is to say to its rejuvenation.

SNCF devotes 800 million euros to it per year, out of a total budget of two billion euros for works.

Faced with these “

avalanches of line interruptions

”, in the words of Valérie Pécresse, replacement buses are deployed.

But this solution can be very boring, especially for users at the end of the line, recognizes the president of the Île-de-France region.

She said she wanted to set up so-called “ express

” substitution buses

, which connect directly or with few intermediate stations, the two ends of the line.

The objective is to spare users the famous “obstacle

course

”.

"

An idea that deserves to be studied

", according to the vice-president of the FNAUT of Île-de-France, Michel Babut.

According to him, the works are

penalizing and painful but essential to find a network that works properly

".

Ile-de-France residents will therefore be forced to take their troubles patiently...
