The American authorities have detected risky bugs in the autonomous driving software developed by the American manufacturer.

Tesla, the champion of integration, has announced the recall of 362,000 vehicles in the United States for an update to their autonomous driving software.

The measure follows a statement by US authorities that the driver assistance system did not sufficiently comply with road safety rules and could cause accidents.

The software can lead the vehicle to

“exceed speed limits or cross intersections illegally or unpredictably, which increases the risk of an accident”,

worries the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The US authority asked Tesla to recall all of the cars, but the company said that despite carrying out the recall, it did not agree with the analysis.

It's a rare intervention by federal regulators in a real-world testing program the company says is crucial to developing cars that can drive themselves.

Beta software is used by hundreds of thousands of Tesla customers.

The setback for Tesla in automated driving comes about two weeks ahead of Investor Day on March 1, when Chief Executive Elon Musk is expected to promote the electric vehicle maker's artificial intelligence capabilities and its plans to develop new technologies. expansion of its range of vehicles.

Contacted by Reuters, Tesla could not immediately be reached for comment.

NHTSA has already opened an investigation into 830,000 Tesla vehicles equipped with the Autopilot driver assistance system in 2021, after a series of accidents involving parked emergency vehicles.

NHTSA said Thursday that, despite the new recall, its "

investigation into Tesla's Autopilot system and related vehicle systems remains open and active

."

Last year, Tesla already recalled nearly 54,000 U.S. vehicles equipped with the same self-driving software that can cause some models to perform

"rolling stops"

and not come to a complete stop at certain intersections, posing health risks. safety, according to NHTSA.

Tesla and NHTSA say advanced driving features in Tesla's latest models don't make the cars fully self-driving and require drivers to be careful.
