Data issued by the European Commission revealed that Russia's imports to European countries achieved a record level last year.
According to Sputnik, European data indicated that imports of goods from Russia to the European Union increased by a quarter of last year and amounted to about 203.4 billion euros, which is only 230 million euros less than the historical maximum recorded for these imports in 2012.
The data showed that EU exports to Russia fell last year by 38.1 percent to their lowest level since 2005 at 55.22 billion euros.
The data showed that the deficit in the European trade balance with Russia reached a record level of 148.2 billion euros at the end of last year, double the figure a year earlier.
This data comes in light of the continuation of Western and European countries announcing the imposition of economic sanctions on Russia, which shows their inability to overcome the repercussions of the boycott of Russian goods and trade exchange with Moscow.
