TotalEnergies and Paprec, the leader in plastic recycling in France, have just announced the signing of a commercial agreement to develop the first French sector for the chemical recycling of plastic film waste.

This agreement allows TotalEnergies to secure the supply of the future plastic waste chemical recycling plant in Grandpuits (Seine-et-Marne).

TotalEnergies announced in 2020 a vast program to transform the Grandpuits refinery into a zero-carbon platform, to produce biofuels, bioplastics and recycle plastic waste.

The plastic waste processing plant has a processing capacity of 15,000 tons per year.

The technology used is based on a pyrolysis process.

The polymers thus produced will in particular be compatible with food use.

Other industries are fond of recycled and recyclable plastics, starting with the automobile.

As part of the signed agreement, Citeo will supply flexible plastic waste to Paprec.

They will be sorted and prepared in the latter's Amiens factory.

TotalEnergies will use this waste to produce recycled plastics, whose characteristics are similar to those of virgin polymers.

"

This agreement

materializes TotalEnergies' commitment to develop a circular economy of plastics and also contributes fully to our ambition to produce 30% of circular polymers by 2030",

underlines Valérie Goff, senior vice president Renewable Fuels & Chemicals of TotalEnergies.

This innovation carried out with TotalEnergies is a complementary solution to mechanical or “low carbon” recycling”

, emphasizes Sébastien Petithuguenin, Chairman and CEO of Paprec Plastiques.
