Buitoni pizzas doomed to disappear

BIG STORY – Nestlé management announces this Thursday its choice for the future of the Caudry site (North), at the heart of the Fraîch'Up frozen pizza business for a year. Its 113 employees fear a closure. Back to a health and legal rout.

On March 2, the 113 employees of the Buitoni factory in Caudry (Nord) learned that production, which they had resumed in December after months of interruption, was going to stop again.

Despite the efforts of Nestlé, owner of the site, the activity remains weakened by the affair of the pizzas of the Fraîch'Up range, which infected 56 people at the beginning of 2022, and caused the death of two children.

The plan presented by the Swiss agrifood giant gave hope that Buitoni pizzas could be reborn after the health scandal that plunged their sales.

Despite investments to support the brand, orders from distributors did not reach 15% of expected volumes at the beginning of March.

That is less than 450 tons out of the 3500 tons included in the budget.

This Thursday morning, the employees are therefore preparing for another cold shower.

They will be fixed on the solution envisaged by Nestlé for their factory.
