José de Mendiguren: "We are fighting minute by minute to avoid a sudden devaluation"

The Secretary of Industry recognized that "there are no dollars" in the Central Bank due to the drought.

Given the shortage of reserves in the Central Bank and the increase in parallel dollars, the Secretary of Industry, José de Mendiguren, said on Wednesday that the Government is "fighting minute by minute to avoid a sudden devaluation."

"We are going to do the impossible to avoid what everyone knows, and what many of the opposition want, which is a sharp devaluation. We are doing the impossible, fighting minute by minute to avoid a sharp devaluation," De Mendiguren emphasized.

The official acknowledged that "undoubtedly" the severe drought affecting the country is creating difficulties for the Argentine economy.

"In the short term, we don't have dollars, the drought has just taken them away from us," he admitted.

De Mendiguren indicated, in statements to the radio stations El Destape and AM750, that

"the challenge" for the Government is not to "fall the level of activity

and the recovery of real wages."

"If you don't grow, all the rest is fanning a corpse," added the Secretary of Industry.
