What changed in our consumption habits during Passover?

At least according to a survey conducted by the Histadrut Consumer Authority, quite a bit:

about 60% of Israeli consumers buy eggs and matzots about a week and a half before Passover, and about 60% are not ready to give up shopping at the supermarket in favor of online shopping.

On the occasion of Passover, which is just around the corner, many Israelis are preparing for the many expenses that the holiday brings with it.

The Histadrut Authority for Consumer Affairs conducted a survey that examined the shopping habits of Israeli consumers in preparation for a holiday.

The survey was conducted through the Geocartography Institute among 600 respondents, who are a representative sample of the Jewish population in the State of Israel.

CEO of the Histadrut Consumer Authority, attorney Yaron Levinson

: "The most important thing is to enjoy the holiday atmosphere without getting into a "holiday shopping atmosphere" which is not always the most profitable."

A planned purchase or do you take from whatever comes next?

About 82% of the participants in the survey answered that they arrive with a basic list prepared in advance, and make their purchases according to it.

"There is no doubt that buying with the help of a list prepared in advance is a wise purchase," explained Attorney Levinson. "The list focuses us on the products that are right for us, and minimizes the purchase of products that are not necessary

.

"

before the purchase," stressed Adv. Levinson.

About 62% of the respondents in the survey compare the marketing chains before making the big purchase, "It is good to see that the majority of the public makes sure to use this tool, which results in significant financial savings. Also, recently there is a phenomenon of some of the marketing chains not being careful to display prices according to the law, which hurts the public expand".

"It is recommended to split the purchase between the different chains, according to the specific promotions that are relevant to our shopping basket, and to plan the split in advance as much as possible."

Indeed, the results of the survey show that about 54% of Israeli consumers split their shopping basket between the marketing chains.

About 31.5% of them do it to save money, and the rest for other reasons.

About 46% do not split their shopping at all.

Attorney Levinson emphasized regarding this move, that "it is not recommended to carry out the splits when approaching the eve of the holiday, because in these cases the split may be expensive." Are

food basket tests effective or not?

We also examined whether articles published in preparation for Passover, and which include a price comparison between the marketing chains, influence the buying habits of the Israeli consumer.

The results of the survey show that 38% of the respondents do not refer at all or are not exposed to price comparison articles.

And 22% of Israelis will continue to buy in the marketing chain they planned to buy in despite the articles.

"Articles and surveys that are published before the holiday are helpful tools for shopping. However, you must not rely solely on them. There are differences between the baskets that have been tested and sometimes the prices found are only relevant for the day of the test."

This Passover are we all buying online?

"Online shopping is an excellent tool for saving time and money" Despite this, about 60% of the respondents will do all their shopping in supermarkets and give up online shopping, according to the results of the survey.

Also, only 3.5% will make all their purchases via the Internet, and the rest of the consumers will make their purchases in combination between the two platforms.

Adv. Levinson: "As can be seen from the results of the survey, the Israeli consumer prefers to feel with his own hands and see the products he purchases, in concentrated shopping on the eve of the holiday.

Although buying online could have saved precious time."

"It is recommended not to wait until the last minute and to purchase as much in advance as possible" advises attorney Levinson.

Indeed, the results of the survey show that over 60% responded that they buy some of the products up to a week and a half before the holiday, for fear of a shortage.

Among the prominent products: meat, chicken, fish, eggs and unleavened bread.

"Waiting until the last minute can result in us buying the products at higher prices than usual due to a shortage."

Another interesting statistic discovered in the survey - Israelis are not tempted to buy more despite the holiday sales.

About 65% of the respondents answered that they do not intend to make large purchases for the home with the announcement of the promotions that come with the holiday.

"In some cases there are worthwhile and worthwhile promotions."

Said attorney Yaron Levinson, but at the same time he emphasized: "We must not let the holiday atmosphere and the "sales" blind us into buying products that are not affordable or that are not necessary.

" to choose a different gift. This is what the results of the survey show. It was also discovered that about 15% of Israelis have the option of choosing a gift for the holiday, and about 37% of them choose shopping vouchers for the marketing chains. The CEO of the Histadrut Consumer Affairs Authority, attorney Yaron Levinson clarifies the importance of the promissory notes as part of the budget plan: "Promissory notes must be treated as money for all intents and purposes.

The notes are part of the holiday budget, so they should be used intelligently and not casually."

Spending time and traveling less, because of the fear of expenses

This Passover - we are all travelers:

to conclude the survey, we checked whether Israelis will change their recreation habits following the increase in the cost of living.

"Passover is an excellent time to take advantage of the weather and to travel and get to know our wonderful country," said the CEO of the Histadrut Consumer Affairs Authority. Indeed, about 76% of the respondents answered that they would change the way they spend time on the holiday due to the price increases. Some will not go out for entertainment at all, some will go out to places cheaper or free, and some of them will travel this year in Israel instead of abroad.

Levinson noted that "it is possible to travel to dozens of free nature reserves, museums and parks that will give a great feeling of satisfaction. Also, it is recommended to prepare in advance for these tours in terms of food and drink - to avoid unnecessary purchases that will make the entertainment more expensive."

The CEO of the Histadrut Consumer Affairs Authority, attorney Yaron Levinson, concluded by saying: "The costs of expenses for a holiday meal and the Passover vacation have become more expensive this year, therefore it is very important to make informed purchases: compare prices before shopping. Choose accordingly the place and form of shopping. Avoid From buying particularly expensive products. Don't buy too many quantities (because parts of the holiday meals are sometimes thrown in the trash). And most importantly - enjoy the holiday atmosphere without getting into a "holiday shopping atmosphere" which is not always the most profitable.
