The big money came out of Israel - and it's really not what you think - voila! Of money

Regardless of the current protest and the danger of capital flight from Israel, our pension funds and provident funds discovered the capital markets in the greater world and directed billions there

Overseas, the funds are in constant movement from one hot spot to another, as part of the investment managers' attempts to generate profits for us, or at least, especially in the last year, minimal losses.

Last year's data shows that our money returned to empower the American technology giants, and in the last quarter some of it increased its hold on the shares of the major banks, especially after the sector's shares began a free fall after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank.

The data of the Smartball company (which developed systems for analyzing investments of institutional bodies) show that the foreign stock that aroused the most interest among the institutional bodies that manage our savings was Taiwan Semiconductor (TSMC), the largest chip contractor in the world, whose total transactions amounted to about 1.4 billion dollars in 2022.

Sellers only

TSMC is traded on the New York Stock Exchange in the US with a value of approximately $457 billion and most of the transactions made by the Israeli entities were sales transactions. More precisely, most of the transactions made there were sales of approximately $1.1 billion made by the investment house Altshuler Shaham. The insurance and pension

company Migdal was right after him with sales of approximately $73.6 million. In contrast, Menorah Insurance Company increased its stake in the Taiwanese company's stock by an additional $81.5 million. The

sale of Altshuler Shechem was not the only one, in light of the company's stock falling by approximately 38% during 2022. Alongside It should be noted that the opinions regarding the chip companies are divided, when on the one hand there is a strong demand for the products of the companies that fail to provide the supply that will meet it.

But on the other hand, there is an estimate that demand will decrease due to the decrease in the consumption of the products required for chip products such as cars and cell phones, due to inflation and the increase in interest rates, and especially if the American economy enters a recession (which some claim is already there).

The South Korean electronics and semiconductor giant, Samsung Electronics, also "earned" the cold shoulder of the Israeli institutional investors, whose total investments in it amounted to approximately $1.1 billion in 2022.

Most of the transactions were sales transactions, also led by the Altshuler Shaham investment house , who sold Samsung shares for about 813 million dollars for the same period, it should be noted that.

Samsung stock fell by about 29% during that year.

Searching on Google

The third company that caught the eyes of the managers of our pension and provident funds is the technology giant Google, which is traded on the Nasdaq stock exchange in the US with a value of about 1.35 trillion dollars and whose share price fell last year by about 38.6%.

The data of the Smartball company show that the total number of transactions made by the Israeli institutional bodies is about 1 billion dollars (see table), and that most of them are purchase transactions.

The purchases were led by the insurance and pension company Menorah, which purchased shares of the American technology giant for about $572 million, and right after it, the Altshuler Shaham investment house also bought shares for about $305 million.

The confidence of institutional investors also returned to the cyber companies, with transactions totaling approximately 642.7 million dollars in the American cyber company Fortinet.

Most of the transactions were positive and were led by the investment house Altshuler Shaham, which purchased the company's shares for approximately 567.8 million dollars for 2022. We note that the share price fell during that period by approximately 32%.

The surprise was the split of faith of the local institutional bodies in the American technology and commerce giant Amazon, whose total transactions were about 635 million dollars.

About half of the Israeli institutional entities made purchase transactions and the other half made sale transactions.

For example, Menorah Insurance and Pension Company purchased Amazon shares for approximately $234.4 million in 2022, while Migdal Insurance and Pension Company sold shares of the American technology and trading giant for approximately $231.5 million.

The Nasdaq index, which includes the American technology companies, fell by about 33.1% during 2022, and the S&P500 index, which includes the 500 largest American companies on Wall Street, some of them from the industrial sector, fell significantly less - about 19.4%.

Not just tech

It should be noted that the examination of the last quarter of 2022 reveals that the institutions saw future return possibilities in other sectors as well.

For example, according to the data of the Smartball company, most of the sales transactions of foreign shares carried out by the Altshuler investment house in the same quarter were in the industrial sector and most of the purchases were in the financial sector.

For example: the investment house sold Caterpillar company shares for approximately 423 million dollars, while other institutional entities purchased shares for a few hundred thousand dollars.

and purchased JPMorgan shares for approximately $157.5 million while the majority sold for several hundred thousand dollars and a few million dollars.

We will also note that the majority of institutional investments are in the leaders of the various sectors and after examining and finding that the share price is a buying opportunity for the benefit of receiving future returns.

All that is left for us to do is to closely monitor the performance of the funds and examine which of them will enrich their colleagues more, or what is more correct for this period: will better protect their savings.
