Shavuot is expensive: an increase of about 10% from the prices on the eve of Shavuot last year (Photo: ShutterStock)
In the background of the renewed discussion about the war on the cost of living, so far with no result, we set out to check what happened to our shopping basket for Shavuot.
Through the Retail Research Institute we examined products that include products for which there is traditionally an increase in demand: pasta, bread, flour, frozen vegetables and more.
The test revealed that in consumer price terms, the weekly basket of products will become more expensive by more than 8%.
However, we were willing to "sign" even on this increase in price, because a deeper examination reveals that when you add to the price the dairy products (supervised and non-supervised) whose prices have risen on average by about 5%, you get a much grimmer picture ahead of the holiday where dairy foods are the stars: an increase of more than 10%

Israblof: How do you prepare for the increase in the prices of fruits and vegetables?
If that is not enough, another blow is expected for consumers in the run-up to the holiday: although some retailers have announced that they will not raise prices before Shavuot, those retailers will be "compensated" in the overall buying cycles due to an increase that is already occurring - and is expected to intensify in the run-up to the holiday - in the prices of vegetables and fruits.
The field of fruits and vegetables demonstrates how the method works: first, news about the weather is "leaked" to the media: sometimes it is a "storm", sometimes a drought and sometimes hail (remember, in one of the countries with the mildest winter in the world).
Then they add that due to the bad weather, a shortage of fruits or vegetables is expected - and then, when the price jumps, the reasons for this are already known.
Those who still believe, can recall what happened about a month ago, on the eve of Independence Day, when they "suddenly" discovered the closeness between Israel's holidays and Muslim holidays, which caused slaughterhouses to shut down, a simulated shortage and a jump in the price of poultry.
Well, the fruits and vegetables are the fowl of the feast.
The manufacturers, for their part, are not satisfied with the price increase either: some of them have already informed the retail chains that this year they do not intend to initiate holiday discounts and promotions.
The period under review, about a year from the previous holiday until the next holiday upon us, is divided between the two most recent governments: one that lost power (among other things) due to the increase in the cost of living, and the new government whose election campaign focused on promises to lower the cost of living, but it is during her watch that prices rise sharply .
