"Choose France": Ikea, Pfizer, Nokia... €13 billion in investments planned by 28 companies

Highlights: The 2023 edition of the "Choose France" summit will be held this Monday at the Palace of Versailles. There will be announced 28 foreign investment decisions, for a record amount of 13 billion euros, representing 8000 jobs. The biggest investment that will be formalized on Monday is to the credit of Ikea, with 906 million euros between 2023 and 2026. In line with the green reindustrialization strategy wanted by the government, "more than half of the investments" will concern the sectors of carbon-free energies or electric vehicles.


The amount of foreign investment that will be unveiled on Monday at the sixth edition of this summit exceeds the amounts of previous meetings.


At the Élysée, we are already welcoming "an edition that can be described as a record", new proof according to the presidency that "the France has never been so attractive". On the occasion of the 2023 edition of the "Choose France" summit, which is held this Monday at the Palace of Versailles, will be announced 28 foreign investment decisions, for a record amount of 13 billion euros, representing 8000,<> jobs, unveiled the presidency on Sunday evening.

In 2022, the year in which the summit was divided into two sessions due to Covid, "Choose France" – an appointment instituted by Emmanuel Macron in 2018 and intended to promote the attractiveness of our country internationally – had announced 35 investments for 10.8 billion euros cumulatively. This year, industrial projects still take the lion's share, with 40% of announcements.

Two of the 28 decisions that will be formalized Monday had already been unveiled Friday by Emmanuel Macron during his visit to Dunkirk, both in the electric battery sector: the 5.2 billion euros of the Taiwanese Prologium to set up a "gigafactory" in the sub-prefecture of the North (for 3000,1 jobs), and the investment of 5.1700 billion euros by the Chinese XTC and the French Orano, also in Dunkirk, for the production of cathode materials for lithium batteries (<> jobs created). Green energy and mobility

In line with the green reindustrialization strategy wanted by the government, "more than half of the investments" that will be announced Monday concern the sectors of carbon-free energies or electric vehicles, notes the Elysee. In Sarreguemines, Moselle, 710 million euros will be put on the table by Holosolis - an offshoot of the InnoEnergy group - to set up a photovoltaic panel production plant. The German start-up Marvel Fusion will announce Monday the creation of a subsidiary in Saclay (Essonne), with fifteen researchers, to progress in the mastery of nuclear laser fusion technology.

The Portuguese charging station operator Power Dot will strengthen its presence in France via an investment of 140 million euros by 2025 (66 jobs created). The Italian manufacturer Iveco will inject 115 million euros into its sites in Annonay (Ardèche) and Bourbon-Lancy (Saône-et-Loire), particularly in the production of electric and hydrogen vehicles. For its part, the German automotive supplier Continental AG will create 500 jobs between 2023 and 2026 in France.

Health

After having already announced to invest 500 million euros last year, the American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer plans to invest an additional 500 million euros over the next four years. In particular, to increase its clinical trial capabilities and increase its investments in research and development (R&D). "Pfizer is committed to assessing the progress of projects, with a view to investing up to one billion additional euros in 2025-2026," the statement said. The CEO of the laboratory, Albert Bourla, will also be received at the presidential palace by Emmanuel Macron on Monday morning.

The British GSK is not to be outdone, with nearly 400 million euros of industrial investments - on its three production sites (Évreux, Mayenne and Saint-Amand-les-Eaux) - and R&D about to be announced. The Italian industrial and medical gases group Sapio has planned to invest 200 million euros, with the creation of 100 jobs in the health and biotechnology sector.

Habitat

The biggest investment that will be formalized on Monday is to the credit of Ikea, with 906 million euros between 2023 and 2026. Projects in renewable energies and the circular economy are mentioned for the Swedish furniture giant, which had already announced to invest 650 million euros in France during "Choose France" 2022. The German manufacturer of building materials Knauf will announce its ambition to build an assembly unit in Moselle, in Illange, for an investment of 100 million euros and the creation of 50 jobs.

Tech

Already well established in our country, Nokia will consolidate its presence there, with the creation of up to 500 R&D jobs over the next five to eight years at its sites in Paris-Saclay and Lannion (Côtes-d'Armor). The objective of this investment for the Finnish telecoms company is to develop advanced 5G and 6G. In addition, 500 jobs will also be created within three years by the consulting firm Accenture, and 200 by the US bank Morgan Stanley in Paris by 2025.

Food

An investment of 130 million euros is expected by the American group Mars. In particular to increase its production capacity, but also for environmental purposes: innovate in terms of sustainable packaging and continue its ecological transition. Cargill, another American heavyweight in the agri-food sector, although less known, will invest 50 million euros in its plant in Saint-Cyr-en-Val (Loiret).
