Easy approach to a 'dusty' theme
The "If it's ancient, return with a click" campaign launched today by the Israel Antiquities Authority is intended to increase public awareness of antiquities and their importance, to discover ancient items of historical value held by citizens, and to return them to their "natural home" – in the State Treasures and museums.
The Antiquities Authority and the Ministry of Heritage understood that the subject, which may be perceived as "dusty," requires easy accessibility, and therefore the appeal to the public is done in a funny, even extreme manner.
Each video presents a different case in which the citizen understands that keeping an ancient item in his home is unnecessary, impractical and - most importantly - does not respect the past. In the hands of the Israel Antiquities Authority, the item, which belongs to all of us – and not to one individual or another – will be properly preserved for future generations.
In one video, a man is shown grinding flour using millstones after his wife asks him for some flour to prepare dinner.

"Putting together the historical puzzle of the Land of Israel"
Amichai Eliyahu, Minister of Heritage: "The antiquities return operation, led by the Ministry of Heritage and the Israel Antiquities Authority, is important and significant in assembling the national story of the people of Israel. I call on the general public, which has some antiquities in its home, to return them to us and help us put together the historical puzzle in the Land of Israel."
"Many people keep antiquities in their private homes, which came into their possession under different circumstances. Some are collected in the field, some are inherited, and more," explainsEli Escozido, director of the Israel Antiquities Authority. "Many of them are not aware that by law antiquities, which are a public historical treasure, must be reported.
The campaign seeks citizens' partnership in restoring antiquities to the natural and legal place of our heritage assets. With us, in the State Treasures, the sensitive items will be documented and preserved from the ravages of time, some of them will be transferred to displays, and perhaps even add information about the past of the country. We are very curious to find out what will come our way."
The campaign, which was produced through Lapam, will be launched today (June 1) on digital and radio, under the slogan "If it's ancient – return with a click."
