Retired Judge Neely Arad, Chairwoman of the International Transparency Association Israel - Shabil: "In the chaos that has suddenly overtaken our lives, we must also make room for Israel's national strength, which requires strict adherence to the state's conduct as a fundamental democracy that rejects phenomena of governmental corruption.

" 2023 there was a drop in Israel's score compared to the jump in the score in the index for 2022, which embodied the most impressive change in 9 years in Israel's position in the global corruption perception index.

The increase in the 2022 index reflected the governmental conduct in Israel that year, as a liberal democracy, while ensuring a strong and independent judicial system, protection of the gatekeepers and free communication.

In this governmental conduct, a fundamental change took place in 2023, when its main manifestation was in the actions of government officials to weaken the independence of the judicial system and undermine the status of gatekeepers.

"An in-depth examination of the results of the 2023 index shows that the civil struggle to protect against damage to the existence of essential democracy prevented a more significant decrease in Israel's score in the index for this year. We must therefore be careful that the fundamental values of essential democracy in Israel are protected from damage in general, and especially with regard to The independence of the judicial system in this way will prevent Israel's deterioration towards the countries perceived as corrupt, such as Hungary, Poland and Turkey."
