Inflation did not slow down in January in the City of Buenos Aires.
It made a slight jump,
going from 21.1% in December to 21.7% last month
, due to the increase in passenger transport rates (+48.8%), prepaid fees (+39, 3%) and the rise in prices linked to tourism (+74.6%).
In food, the increase was 25.4%
, according to the Report of the Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of the City of Buenos Aires.
With these increases, in 12 months,
year-on-year inflation is 238.5%
(+40.1 percentage points above the month of December), with
food with an average year-on-year increase of 303.1%.
According to the Report of the Buenos Aires Directorates by items, the increase in prices was as follows:
Food and non-alcoholic beverages
increased 25.4%.
The main impulse increases came from Bread and cereals (27.9%), Milk, dairy products and eggs (28.1%) and Meat and derivatives (17.2%).
Transportation
averaged an increase of 33.7%, mainly due to increases in the prices of fuels and lubricants for vehicles for household use and air tickets (93.9%).
Restaurants and hotels
rose 24.1% due to increases in the prices of food prepared in restaurants, bars and eateries.
Next in importance were increases in hotel accommodation service rates for tourist reasons.
Health
registered an increase of 30.3%, mainly due to adjustments in prepaid medicine fees.
To a lesser extent, increases in drug prices stood out.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels
increased 10%, due to the increase in rental values
and common housing expenses.
Recreation and culture
averaged an increase of 30.5%, due to increases in the prices of tourist packages.
The Report clarifies that “seasonal goods and services averaged an increase of 34.5%, mainly due to increases in the values of hotel accommodation, air tickets and tourist packages”
During the last 12 months, the greatest increases in food were recorded in Meats and derivatives (323.9%), fruits (282.4%), Sugar, pastries and desserts (330.5%), Bread and cereals (322.3%). %) and Oils, butters and other fats (332.8%)
The item with
the highest annual increase was household appliances, with 346.8%.
The Report concludes that “in year-on-year terms, the Food and non-alcoholic beverages, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, Restaurants and hotels and Transportation divisions were mainly responsible for the increase in retail prices, explaining
the 60.0 % of the interannual variation of the General Level”.
For February, it is expected that the increase in passenger transportation, prepaid fees, electricity services, school supplies, and private school fees will lead the month's inflation.
