The clothing brand's forty stores will have to close.

This is a new sign of the French clothing crisis.

The Burton of London brand will be liquidated, the Paris commercial court announced on Tuesday.

This stoppage is anything but a surprise.

According to Capital, the ready-to-wear brand was due to close its stores on February 10.

From Lorient to Agen, via Vannes or Dijon, some 47 shops were to lower the iron curtain.

The fashion brand was placed on a safeguard plan in October 2022 before going into receivership in June 2023.

The recovery plan had already led to the closure of 26 points of sale in February 2023, which preceded that of 62 other stores.

It was no longer possible to order on the website and only in-store purchases were still possible until February 10.

A sector in crisis

San Marina, Kaporal, Don't Call Me Jennyfer, Naf Naf… Fashionable clothing brands in the 1990s and 2000s have been in deep difficulties for several years.

On February 5, the IKKS brand announced that it was considering a reduction in staff and the number of stores, weighed down according to it by the fallout from the Covid-19 crisis, inflation and the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

In September 2022, the courts declared the judicial liquidation of the Camaïeu brand, leading to the closure of stores and the dismissal of employees.

The Kookaï brand, placed in receivership in February 2023, announced the closure of 20 stores a few months later.

The health crisis has also hit brands already weakened by the rise of “fast fashion” giants like Zara or H&M and online sales.
