Can we believe the timetable for new French nuclear power?
The countdown was started in February 2022 by the President of the Republic during the Belfort speech, which set 2035 as the date for commissioning an EPR 2 type nuclear reactor. The first in a series of six, or even fourteen.
The question arises as delays of ten years or more and additional costs have accumulated on the various projects launched previously: Olkiluoto in Finland, Hinkley Point in the United Kingdom and Flamanville 3 in France.
2024-2035: eleven years separate us from the deadline.
A challenge, while the first concrete has not yet been poured, the financing model has not been decided, nor the cost of the new nuclear program.
Initially estimated at 52 billion euros, it could be substantially revised upwards to around 62 billion.
The effects of inflation and the rise in raw materials must be taken into account.
