At the head of the online rum sales site, Boutique-rhum.com, since 2019, Alex Guez knew the cyberthreat lurking on the web.
In May 2023, he suffered it head-on.
“We had been seeing cases of attacks multiply for several weeks,” he says.
My two partners and I were therefore very vigilant.
» Alex even goes so far as to develop a virtual robot reproducing the entire customer journey on his site, in order to ensure that each step takes place normally.
It is this device that will allow him to immediately detect a flaw, on the famous day of the attack.
“At first, I thought it was a joke, that I had programmed the robot wrong,” he smiles.
But no.
The hacker had indeed modified our payment page to enter his IBAN instead of ours and only keep the bank transfer among the payment possibilities.
» Immediately, Alex organizes a crisis meeting with his associates and his web agency.
“We had already suffered a fire in our storage warehouse three years before,” he says.
Thanks to the help provided to us at the time by an expert in crisis management, we had acquired certain reflexes.
