Philippe Chainieux was definitely born in the right era, but not in the right place.
The Nîmes native, the first high school graduate in his family, had never gone beyond his native arenas before the principal of his high school convinced his parents to enroll him in preparatory class at Sainte-Geneviève, in Versailles.
Since then, he has built his career around the internet.
The former manager of Meetic and Made.com is now at the wheel of the used vehicle advertising platform La Centrale.
After the double shock - cultural and thermal - of his arrival in the Paris region, he redoubled his efforts and graduated from the prestigious Centrale engineering school in 1993. There he discovered that borders were disappearing thanks to the rise of digital technology.
The rush on the web
A classmate introduced him to web service provider Renater, and together they launched an instant messaging start-up.
They obtained a schedule adjustment and reoriented themselves in the creation of sites for communities.
