A page that turns.

The Spanish company Cooltra will take over its French competitor Cityscoot, in receivership since the end of 2023, and reduce its fleet, the two self-service scooter companies indicated on Wednesday.

Cityscoot, created in 2014, boasted some 2,500 vehicles and 250,000 active users in Paris.

The offer from Cooltra, the only candidate, was

“validated by the Paris commercial court for the takeover of Cityscoot

,” the Spanish company said in a press release.

The plan provides for the takeover of 30 employees out of the company's 168, according to spokespersons for Cityscoot and Cooltra.

The takeover offer

“was able to convince the Paris commercial court because of its balance between the financial aspect and the number of jobs saved”

, underlined Cooltra.

The court also

“recognized Cooltra’s financial strength as a reliable guarantee to ensure the continuity of the Cityscoot brand and meet user demand

,” according to Cooltra.

Cooltra plans to deploy its own machines

Cityscoot users will be able to access the scooter rental service from Friday February 23 at 10:00 a.m., via the Cooltra application, with the same identifiers as on the Cityscoot application.

The credits these customers had with Cityscoot should be automatically transferred to their new Cooltra account.

The Spanish company is not taking over Cityscoot's scooters but intends to deploy its own machines, for a total of 1,500 two-wheelers in the colors of the two brands, in Paris and the inner suburbs.

“Cityscoot and Cooltra can pride themselves on being pioneers in the shared electric scooter rental sector.

We are therefore very happy to continue our journey together

,” underlined Fabien Douay, director of Cooltra for France.

Cooltra, founded in Barcelona in 2006, has 10,000 electric vehicles and more than 400 employees in Europe, with a presence in Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Lisbon, Rome, Milan and Turin.

In July 2023, Cityscoot won, with Yego and Cooltra, the call for tenders from the city of Paris to operate a self-service scooter rental service in the capital for the next five years.

The three operators had authorization to deploy between 1,500 and 2,500 vehicles the first two years, 1,500 and 3,000 the following three.
