Highlights: The boss of the E.Leclerc centers will not participate in the exchange desired by the President of the Republic at the opening of the Agricultural Show on Saturday. “I have no vocation to play the useful idiot of a diversionary operation, nor to be hostage to political strategies,” Michel-Édouard Leclerc said. He believes that it is not up to large retailers to respond to the issues raised by farmers and thus prefers to leave “precedence to those responsible for French and European agricultural policy”

The boss of the E.Leclerc centers will not participate in the exchange desired by the President of the Republic at the opening of the Agricultural Show on Saturday, in an attempt to respond to the anger of the operators.

“I have no vocation to play the useful idiot of a diversionary operation, nor to be hostage to political strategies.”

Michel-Édouard Leclerc strongly criticized this Friday on X (formerly Twitter) the

“great debate”

proposed by Emmanuel Macron at the Agricultural Show on Saturday February 24, in which he will not participate.

For the boss of the E.Leclerc centers, this moment of exchange would only be a

“comm stunt”

and a

“gross manipulation”

.

Michel-Édouard Leclerc thus indicates that he did not receive any invitation and did not, in any case,

“wait for the lame announcement of a “big debate” to discuss with farmers from our regions”

.

He believes that it is not up to large retailers to respond to the issues raised by farmers and thus prefers to leave

“precedence to those responsible for French and European agricultural policy”

.

The boss of Leclerc intends to continue his exchanges with farmers

“without cameras and without cinema”

.

The

“great debate”

wanted by Emmanuel Macron to launch the Agricultural Show is turning into a mess.

The invitation from the collective Les Soulèvements de la Terre - which the executive wanted to dissolve a few months ago - caused a lively controversy, forcing the Élysée to backpedal by assuring that it had never been invited.

The main agricultural union, the FNSEA, for its part warned that it would not participate.
