“A large majority of bank rates are increasing in 2024,” indicate the members of the Bank Rates Observatory (OTB), an organization which reports to the Financial Sector Advisory Committee (CCSF).

It published its annual study on the subject on Wednesday. The cost of account maintenance fees, for example, increased by 3.01%, going from 20.60 euros on average last year to 21.22 euros.

Intervention commission, cash withdrawal, provision of a debit card, occasional branch transfer... there are a total of eight products which have increased thanks to the new price scales of the banks, out of the 14 scrutinized at the magnifying glass by the OTB.

Only two declined and four stagnated.

An increase in bank rates from 2.5% to 3% this year.

The study “highlights the lower and moderate increase in relation to inflation (noted at 4.9% in France last year by INSEE, Editor's note) of the vast majority of the main banking rates”, said rely on the French Banking Federation (FBF).

The OTB examined the grids of 100 establishments, 93 network banks and 7 online banks.

If it compares a certain number of rates from one year to the next (including two free ones, which are stagnating), the OTB does not add up and therefore does not give the total average cost of bank charges for consumers French.

The CLCV (consumption housing and living environment) association, on the other hand, lends itself to the exercise every year in January.

According to her, total bank rates are up 2.5% to 3% this year.

“Small” and “medium consumers” suffer the highest inflation

These are "small consumers", with a set of basic services (account maintenance fees, immediate debit card, etc.) and so-called average consumers (two holders each with a card with loss insurance). and theft, a bank check every 10 years...) which suffer the highest inflation, of 2.97% and 3% respectively.

Their annual bank charges, applied for the most part since January 1, increase this year to 66.23 euros for the first profile and 147.80 euros for the second.

The Panorabanques comparator, for its part, noted an increase in bank fees of 2.1% this year, the highest since 2017 according to their data.

The average cost would be 225.20 euros.

The difference with the CLCV amounts is explained in particular by the taking into account of incident fees, which according to the comparator represent around a third of total bank fees.
