"Today's Likud is a completely different party than the one I knew in my position in the Knesset. If in the past it was a union of the Freedom and Liberal parties, today it has become a party of loudness and rudeness," says the retiring president of the Association of Chambers of Commerce Uriel Lin.

Lin, who was a member of the Knesset on behalf of the Likud until 1992, will end his term as union president at the end of next month.

As chairman of the Knesset's Constitution Committee, he initiated a number of basic laws and reforms in the tax field. Lin also served as chairman of the Knesset's Constitution Committee and led a legal revolution that included a number of basic laws and reforms in the tax field.

He often cooperates with Netanyahu, but his attitude towards him is completely different today.

According to him, "Unlike in the past when Netanyahu was considered the responsible adult, today Bibi does not lead anything in the management of the treasury or the tax policy. He is only attached to the continuation of the war or the foreign policy. He has disappeared from the field of the economy. His priorities have changed and he is busy with his survival."

Regarding the conduct of the political system today, he adds that "unlike in the past, consultation with the business system is done to a limited extent. What guides the politicians and the prime minister today is the need to maintain the integrity of the coalition at any cost. They demonstrate excessive populism."

Lin is extremely critical of the governor and the interest rate policy: "I think the current governor has failed in its monetary policy and in my view he is the most failed governor in the history of the Bank of Israel. He should put down the keys and resign. The interest rate policy is unbalanced and the burden of expenses is mainly borne by the customers and small businesses."

According to him, "There is no justification for the banks to charge such a high interest rate, and fees amounting to 11 billion shekels which will bring their profits to 25 billion shekels this year. These are excessive profits. There is no balance between the profits for the banks and the protection of the consumer, and thus the governor has failed. This point has already been raised by the members in the finance committee".

In response to the question of how his position is reconciled with the fact that the governor is respected in the world, his term has been extended for another five years and that he is working to curb inflation through the interest rate because of the irresponsible budgetary behavior of the Treasury, Lin answers that "Netanyahu and Smotrich were afraid of terminating the governor's term, and therefore out of fear of public criticism they had to extend it. Inflation does hurt businesses, but the interest rate hurts even more. What is the value of a monetary policy, no matter how successful it may be, if at the same time tens of thousands of businesses are closed, households are suffocating and the banks are making billions?"

The President of the Chambers of Commerce warns about the constitutional revolution that seems to have disappeared from the agenda: "As the chairman of the Constitution Committee in the Knesset, in cooperation with the former Minister of Justice Prof. Amnon Rubinstein and other members of the Knesset, we were led to the scroll of human rights.

It was clear that within the framework of the basic laws, the human rights chapter that exists in every amended country in the world was missing.

Judge Aharon Barak called it a constitutional revolution.

"The counterattack by Levin's opponent was a terrible mistake. When one becomes arrogant one makes terrible mistakes. When I led reforms I shared all the factions of the coalition. Levin declared war on half of the population. The reform is not dead yet because the thinking of the people who led it has not changed."

Summarizing his tenure as president of the union, he adds: "The most important achievement in my view is that in time of war or during a mass epidemic, the state must provide compensation and business continuity to every business regardless of its nature. In the Second Lebanon War, there was an intention to provide compensation exclusively to workers in industrial plants.

"I led months of struggle So that in times of war or epidemic every business will be entitled to compensation without any sectoral discrimination.

Even Shelly Yachimovich was convinced by my arguments.

To make a structural and real change, the processes take years.

Another achievement was at the Standards Institute.

"If in the past the industry completely controlled the Standards Institute, today we are equal with the industry and it took 15 years. One thing I admit I failed at is the cancellation of the exemption from VAT on personal imports.

I invested a great deal of energy in the struggle, but I admit that in the face of the populism of politicians, the struggle is very difficult."
