The American Xerox will change the business model in Argentina and Chile.
He decided
to stop managing operations directly
and sell his activity to an Argentine company.
Xerox Holdings Corporation, which is "on
a journey of reinvention"
, as stated in the statement, will transfer its operations in both South American countries
to Grupo Datco.
The Argentine company, whose main business is Silica Networks, a wholesale fiber optic network,
will add 270 employees with the new acquisition, for a total of 800 people in 7 countries.
Founded by businessman Horacio Martínez 40 years ago, Datco will become an "exclusive partner" and responsible for the marketing, distribution and support of Xerox products and solutions.
The North American firm, which was born as
a synonym for photocopiers,
is now dedicated to
printers
and supplies (from home office equipment to large laser and multifunction machines and scanners) and has expanded into software and services.
"Across geographies,
we rely on our partners
to help drive the channel and accelerate growth for our customers, making them more productive and successful," said John Bruno, president and chief operating officer of Xerox.
"Grupo Datco has a proven track record in providing customers with the software and services they need to succeed, and
we look forward to working alongside them
as we
transition our businesses in Argentina and Chile
to a partner-led model to support this effort" .
Following the sale of the business,
the new companies will operate as independent entities.
Datco Group will continue to service Xerox devices previously sold in Argentina and Chile and will become the exclusive partner of that brand in those markets.
Thus, the brand will continue to maintain a presence in the region.
Horacio Martínez, who is also CEO of Grupo Datco, said that the
workforce will be preserved,
and highlighted the experience of the company he founded in acquiring companies.
The company founded in 1981 grew with the purchase of companies such as
Winstar, Velocom, Via Networks, Silica Argentina y Chile and AOL Argentina
.
"We will seek to maintain the operation without major changes, both at the level of human resources and organization, as well as commercial management, customer relations and the distribution network that Xerox has successfully built in recent years," Martínez explained.
Regarding the evolution that Datco had in the last 40 years, the businessman added: "We have changed from amphibian to reptile, from reptile to mammal and from mammal to homo sapiens. Today we are taking a new step of evolution by adding the Xerox business to our company in Argentina and Chile".
"Although the regional context
is not as positive as we would like,
in times of crisis
some cry, others look for ways to sell scarves
and, definitely, we are in that group," he said
.
Datco is in Argentina, Chile, Peru, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil and Uruguay.
It was founded in 1981.
