Received a fine of NIS 1 million last week for damage to service/public relations

Last week, the Post received a fine of NIS 1.175 million due to damage to the service, which was imposed on the company by Communications Minister Shlomo Karai.

The fine was imposed by Rari a week after Minister Dodi Amsalem lost a petition discussed in the High Court, which decided unanimously to cancel the dismissal of the chairman of the post office board, Michal Vakanin, stating that this was a "very unusual and extremely unreasonable" decision.

The fine was imposed due to damage to public service by closing three branches and violating a direct instruction of Karai not to close postal units.

The units that were closed are in Netivot, Rishon Lezion and Mitar settlement.

The company has up to 45 days to argue its claims against the intention to impose the financial sanctions.

Karai said that "along with the promotion of privatization with all our might, we will preserve the service to the public and will not allow the postal administration to harm the weakest. Any branch closure without approval will be accompanied by fines and any harm to citizens will be accompanied by strict supervision. Privatization is yes and with all our might for the benefit of the public, but even until then we will not give up the service to the public".

At the post office, they were outraged at this and said that the existing franchisors decided to close the branches and that the recovery agreement prohibits the company from recruiting new employees: "These are agencies that were operated by external franchisees, who decided to stop the operation of the units. The decision does not depend on the decision of the postal company, but on the decision of the franchisee.

" , because the Israel Post Company is prohibited from recruiting new employees as part of the recovery agreement with the Israeli government.

The recovery agreement included layoffs of 20% of the post office's workforce, and as part of its conditions, the company was prohibited from recruiting new employees and re-increasing the number of employees."
