More restrictive rules also target Microsoft's Windows operating system, the daily adds.

As Washington imposes sanctions on a growing number of Chinese companies, citing “national security” reasons, Beijing is retaliating and seeking to reduce its dependence on American technologies.

In late December, China's Ministry of Finance and Industry quietly released a list of "safe and reliable" processors and operating systems that should be prioritized in government procurement.

And, all come from Chinese companies.

Among these companies are Huawei and the Phytium group, two companies which are on Washington's blacklist, synonymous with sanctions and restrictions on the vast American market.

Last year, the Asian giant represented 27% of Intel's turnover and 15% of AMD's.

Microsoft does not provide details on its sales in China.
