Formulas dedicated to micro-entrepreneurs and people working freelance, at less than 10 euros per month, continue to develop

With more than 660,000 new structures created in 2023, the success of the micro-enterprise cannot be denied.

The raising of the turnover thresholds which allow one to benefit from this regime may partly explain this.

It can also justify the fact that banking establishments are increasingly interested in these independent workers, even if their activity often remains limited.

After Crédit Agricole, which launched Eko Pro last year (6 euros per month), the Savings Banks network has just announced in February a specially calibrated offer “to support freelancers in the development of their activity”, from 9.90 euros excluding tax per month.

Enough to compete with online banks which had taken a lead on these special freelance formulas: BoursoBank Pro (9 euros including tax per month), Hello Bank Pro (from 10.90 euros excluding tax per month), N26 Business (4.90 euros per month).

No obligation for micro-entrepreneurs

Please note, however, that these offers are aimed at micro-entrepreneurs who have no legal obligation to open a professional bank account, as Yoann Lopez, creator of Snowball, a newsletter on personal finances, points out.

“When you are in the form of a microenterprise, from a certain amount of turnover

(10,000 euros annually)

, you must have a bank account separate from the one you use on a daily basis.

But a personal account in your name is perfectly sufficient.

» A “pro” account can be useful to have access to additional tools, such as cash collection or accounting.

For self-employed workers who operate in the form of a company - SA, SAS, SARL, EURL, etc. -, a professional account is however mandatory.

For them too, the offer has been expanded via the neobanks Qonto (from 9 euros excluding tax per month), Shine (from 7.90 euros excluding tax per month), bought by Société Générale, or Blank (at from 6 euros excluding tax per month), launched by Crédit Agricole.

Some even have free plans, like the Dutch Finom (for all subscriptions until April 30), or Revolut (basic business).

“Each has specific services, such as alerts on what you need to set aside for taxes at Shine, or cashback at Revolut,” emphasizes Yoann Lopez.

Please note, however, that for these call rates, certain services may be excluded (deposit of checks) or billed additionally (transfers beyond a certain predefined number).
