Private equity: the market should gradually restart in 2024

Highlights: Banks are starting to finance larger operations again. Is this a sign of better days to come? After slowing down for more than a year, the activity of French investment funds recovered somewhat at the end of last year. Despite the rapid rise in interest rates which increased the cost of debt and therefore of operations, investment funds invested 10.8 billion euros in companies not listed on the stock exchange in the second half of 2023. Which remains far from the record of 15.9 billion euros reached in theSecond half of 2021.

Is this a sign of better days to come?

After slowing down for more than a year, the activity of French investment funds recovered somewhat at the end of last year.

Investments started to rise again slightly in the second half of 2023 in amounts and numbers after three semesters of decline ,

notes France Invest, the professional association specializing in private equity, in its annual report produced with the audit group Grant Thornton.

Despite the rapid rise in interest rates which increased the cost of debt and therefore of operations, investment funds invested 10.8 billion euros in companies not listed on the stock exchange in the second half of 2023, compared to 10 .2 billion during the first six months of 2023. Which remains far from the record of 15.9 billion euros reached in the second half of 2021.
