With nearly 27 kg consumed per person each year, the French love it.

Some 90% say they eat it at least once a week and 40% once a day.

Pressed pasta, soft pasta, blue-veined pasta… the 1,000 variations allow you to vary the pleasures.

When it comes to taste, everyone has their favorite.

Long ostracized because of its smell, maroilles brought honor to the North last February.

It won the medal for the French's favorite cheese during a competition organized by RTL on the sidelines of the Salon de l'agriculture.

He collected 37% of the almost 46,000 votes cast, reports France 3 Hauts-de-France.

Emmental, Camembert, raclette: the top three

On the sales side, the cheeses that sell the best in France in 2022 are Emmental, Camembert, raclette cheese, mozzarella, matured goat's cheese logs, Comté and Coulommiers.

This classification is partly explained by the way cheeses are consumed.

Camembert and goat cheese are most often served raw, on platters.

Emmental is used more for everyday cooking.

“In 2022, cheese purchases recorded a drop of 3.3% compared to 2021,” notes the FranceAgriMer report published in 2023. Cow cheeses, however, stand out from other cheeses “with an increase in volumes purchased in look at 2019.”

Consumers have turned away from “cutting” aisles and are more likely to shop in self-service aisles, particularly because of the price.

On average, it increased by 5.3% compared to 2021.
