The deficit continues to grow: according to the calculations published by the Accountant General of the Treasury, Yahli Rotenberg, the deficit also grew in March to about NIS 15 billion, compared to a deficit of NIS 2.7 billion in March 2023. The cumulative deficit since the beginning of the year is about NIS 26 billion compared to a surplus of about - NIS 14.2 billion in the corresponding period last year, while the accumulated deficit in the last 12 months is about NIS 117.3 billion.
This is a figure of 6.2% of GDP, while in February of this year the deficit was 5.6% and in January at 4.8%. In the state budget, the annual deficit target is set at 6.6%, but already at the end of the first quarter, it is not clear whether this is a realistic target or whether the deficit is going to be much higher.

The state's revenues actually increased this year, when revenues of approximately NIS 41.5 billion were recorded in March, and the state's revenues since the beginning of the year totaled approximately NIS 121 billion, compared to approximately NIS 120.7 billion in the corresponding period in 2023 (an increase of 0.3%).
The state's expenditures have increased significantly: in March expenditures of approximately NIS 56.5 billion were recorded, while since the beginning of the year the government's expenditures amounted to approximately NIS 147 billion, a dramatic increase of approximately 38.1% compared to 2023, when the government's expenditures in the first three months of the year amounted to approximately NIS 106.5 billion.
The estimated total war expenses since the beginning of the year excluding the expenses of the compensation fund was about NIS 27.6 billion, and the outbreak of the war was about NIS 52.5 billion.
