What should the future of mobility look like?
A clear majority favors the car – which does not necessarily have to be electric or environmentally friendly.
Coburg – Expensive fuel, constantly rising new car prices and rising insurance premiums: Actually, one should assume that Germans would have to lose interest in cars.
But far from it: your own car is still the most popular means of transport – and will probably remain so.
According to a survey, the car will continue to be the “ideal means of transport” in the future – environmental protection almost irrelevant
At least that is what the representative "Mobility Study 2022" by the insurance group HUK-Coburg suggests.
67 percent, i.e. around two thirds, consider the car to be the “ideal means of transport of the future” – far ahead of the train (16 percent) and bus (10 percent).
"For the majority of Germans, simply pushing back the car is not a goal-oriented strategy for the future - not even in the cities," summarizes Jörg Rheinländer, CEO at HUK-Coburg.
According to the survey, cars will continue to be “ideal means of transport” in the future – only a minority want to drive electrically
The electric drive plays a rather modest role within the large car group: Only 19 percent of the 4,000 respondents and not even a third of the car fans favor it.
This means that the e-car is still in first place among the CO2-free modes of transport (like the train is for the most part) – but at 26 percent, only a good quarter of those surveyed want it.
Electric vehicles perform better than average among younger people and the residents of Berlin.
However, a good third of those surveyed (34 percent) believe that when switching to electromobility, not enough attention is paid to rising electricity prices and a shortage of electricity.

According to a survey, the car will continue to be the “ideal means of transport” in the future – costs are the greatest concern
By far the greatest wish for the future of mobility is affordable (49 percent) or even falling (37 percent) costs.
At 48 percent, however, almost half of those surveyed are skeptical and fear further price increases (as does VW board member Hildegard Wortmann).
"Too much public paternalism" causes 23 percent to worry - too little environmental protection, however, only 18 percent.
Individual mobility that is as inexpensive as possible clearly beats climate protection and environmental friendliness on the wish list.
