Calvados police officers protect SMEs against cyber attacks

They work with health establishments but also with small and medium-sized enterprises to support them in the prevention of illness.

“We were very positively surprised by the gendarmes' approach and the relevance of their intervention.

They carried out an audit on the security of our computer system, based on a very didactic booklet.

And frankly it's a remarkable job of preventing cyberattacks ”.

These words are those of the director of a medical establishment in Calvados, who immediately insists that the anonymity of his testimony be respected.

This already shows the challenge that computer security represents today, not only for large companies but also now hospitals, SMEs, administrations and even small businesses.

"The bosses often do not have time to devote to it"

“Cyber attacks affect everyone and they can come from anywhere.

However, the managers of these structures often do not have the time, or sometimes the resources allocated, to guarantee this security.

Which necessarily makes them vulnerable.

We therefore had the idea of going out to meet them to present them with a prevention booklet and submit them 10 questions allowing them to assess the solidity of their IT system.

There are basic rules such as the reliability of passwords or the management of your emails, but also other simple elements that make it possible to avoid exposing yourself to blackmail or any other form of cyber malevolence ”, explains Colonel Christophe Junqua, commander of the Calvados gendarmerie group.

“We ourselves were hacked last year so we have since commissioned an IT company to protect us,” explains the boss of an SME, too, on condition of anonymity. But really, we can only invite the owners of SMEs to request this intervention of the gendarmes. This is an effective way to find out if your system is sufficiently protected. Because afterwards, it's too late and you only have your eyes to cry on. However, we are all around us that there are more and more companies, sometimes unexpected, that are subjected to blackmail or fraudulent transfers after an attack. "" We must not respond to blackmail, insists the gendarmerie, we must first call us so that we engage our specialized services. "
