Thousands of Greeks demonstrate against mandatory vaccination for health workers

Thousands of people protested in Greece against the planned compulsory vaccination for employees in the health and care sector.
According to the police, a total of around 5,000 people took to the streets against the planned government regulations on Wednesday evening, in the capital Athens alone there were 3,000. Parliament will vote on the measure on Thursday.
People held posters with slogans like "No to forced vaccination" or "Freedom".
Large crosses and Greek flags were also seen in the crowd.
The police used water cannons and tear gas to disperse a group of around 120 masked people, an AFP reporter reported.
The Greek government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis announced a corona vaccination for health and care workers last week.
The country is reacting to the rapid spread of the delta variant of the corona virus.
In just two weeks, the number of new infections rose from 800 to 3000 per day.
Tax revenues
rise in June - but remain below pre-crisis levels

The federal and state tax revenues rose again significantly in June. They grew by 12.9 percent compared to the same month last year to just under 73.8 billion euros, according to the monthly report published on Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Finance. "It should be noted here that the tax revenue in the same month last year was significantly reduced due to the tax measures to mitigate the effects of the pandemic," said the ministry, which at the time allowed tax deferrals for companies. Compared to June 2019, when the pandemic did not yet exist, tax revenue was 8.6 percent lower. In the entire first half of the year, federal and state tax revenues increased by 5.9 percent to more than 347 billion euros.

The European Office of the World Health Organization (WHO) points out the long-term effects of the pandemic on people's mental health.
It is not just the infections and the fear of such an infection that could hit the psyche, said the WHO regional office in Europe on Thursday.
Everyone is affected in one way or another by the psychological effects of lockdowns and self-isolation, but also the consequences of unemployment, financial worries, social exclusion and other things.
"People in the European region are literally collapsing under the burden of Covid-19 and its consequences," said WHO Regional Director Hans Kluge.
The effects of the corona crisis would have taken an enormous toll on people's mental health and well-being.
