"This decision is linked to the uncertainty of a gradual reopening of ports to cruise ships and the restrictions that may still be in place for the movement of people due to the global pandemic Covid-19", regrets the cruise operator in a communicated.

Initially, the company made this decision until the end of June, before extending it at the end of May until July 31.

The company also says it is canceling "all future Costa Victoria cruises" without further details.

The stricken cruise sector has had to give up much of its activity. Several liners from different owners were blocked in April and May for suspected or proven cases of coronavirus contamination.

On March 26 in particular, two Costa ships, the Magica and the Favolosa, had docked in Miami after being refused in several Caribbean ports, while multiple countries are closing their borders to prevent the spread of the virus.
