With the aim of enhancing the role of the private sector in consolidating trade and economic relations, and based on the role entrusted to joint business councils, the Ministry of Economy and Foreign Trade recently issued decisions to form a group of these councils with many countries of the world according to an objective mechanism far from bias and personal considerations.

Assistant Minister of Economy for Economic Development Rania Ahmed explained to SANA that the ministry has adopted this mechanism in forming joint business councils according to a set of measurable criteria in order to run for the presidency of the councils, including that the candidate is one of the people who continued their economic activity inside Syria during the crisis period and that he enjoys He has working relations with the concerned country, has a good reputation for economic work, and has the ability to fulfill his obligations towards revitalizing the work of these councils.

Ahmed indicated that the ministry is gradually forming new business councils, and therefore it made additional amendments to the criteria mentioned in the nomination form to be measurable more accurately, with clarification of the method of proving the availability of each criterion in the candidate, provided that the forms are attached to the documents that support what is stated in their content and that the candidate does not occupy An executive position in any of the sectors related to business activities.

On the importance of forming joint business councils with Iraq, the Sultanate of Oman, Algeria and the UAE, Ahmed stressed that the formation of the councils comes within the framework of keenness to establish trade and investment relations with friendly countries, whether Arab or international, which are accustomed to Syrian export products because they meet the tastes and needs of their consumers, pointing to the importance of work. To build future partnerships to establish investments in various fields, enhance the Syrian product in foreign markets, develop investment, industrial, agricultural and tourism cooperation, and take advantage of the flexibility enjoyed by the private sector to develop inter-cooperation for the benefit of all parties.
