Several thousand customers of ING online banking have just received this letter informing them of the closure, within one month, of their inactive or very low level current or savings account.
It is difficult to know how many people are precisely concerned but, of the million customers claimed by the French subsidiary of the Dutch group, only around 700,000 are active.
This cleanup foreshadows the upcoming sale of ING's client portfolio in France in retail banking.
The Dutch group indeed confirmed at the end of December its intention to withdraw from the French online banking market, like, before it, the British HSBC, which sold its French network to the Cerberus fund.
This departure involves the elimination of 460 jobs out of the 700 that ING has in France, all professions combined ...
