Moroccan police on Saturday opened an investigation into the death of a French woman killed in a market in the south-west of the kingdom, reported the national news agency MAP, which reported the arrest of a suspect.
According to the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN), the victim was identified as "
a 79-year-old French national, residing in a campsite near the city of Tiznit
", south of Agadir.

The police arrested a 31-year-old man in Agadir on Saturday evening and investigations are underway to determine the reasons for his act, adds the DGSN, which does not specify when the woman was killed.
The police had indicated earlier that a judicial investigation had been opened to arrest an "
alleged suspect in a case of assault and battery with the use of a stabbing weapon, which resulted in the death of a foreign national
".
