A man was arrested Tuesday at the end of the day near the Notre-Dame basilica, in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes).
The Actu17 site, which revealed the information, reports an individual who was threatening the sacristan, a church employee responsible for the maintenance and preparation of the premises.
The respondent would also have spat on the ground and yelled words in Arabic during his presence in the religious building.
He returned there a second time after being away for a few minutes.
It was then that he was threatening.
The employee, who was aware of the spitting and screaming earlier, decided to activate an emergency button.
This makes it possible to warn the police, who quickly arrive on site.
Mental disorders
The mayor of the city, Christian Estrosi, welcomed the intervention of the municipal police.
“Justice must be extremely severe as we will soon be commemorating the attack on 10/29/2020,” he wrote, referring to a terrorist attack that took place last year in this basilica.
On October 29, a 21-year-old Tunisian killed three people there with knives.
According to BFMTV, the police have already intervened three times, in addition to the events that occurred on Tuesday evening, for incidents that have occurred since the attack.
The person arrested Tuesday evening is a 26-year-old Tunisian who was not known to the police.
"Nice-Matin" specifies that he is not in possession of all his mental faculties.
The regional daily adds that after the examination of an expert psychiatrist confirming the mental disorders of this man it was decided that no criminal prosecution will be initiated.
