Washington has appealed to the World Trade Organization for its condemnation of the punitive tariffs imposed on China at the start of the trade war between the two great powers.
The United States made the announcement at a meeting of the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) of the Geneva-based organization, a WTO spokesperson said.

Washington was condemned on September 15 by the DSB.
This case, brought by Beijing to the WTO in 2018, concerns a first tranche of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on some $ 250 billion of Chinese goods.
These punitive tariffs marked the start of a trade war between the two economic giants and were one of the hallmarks of the Trump presidency.
Washington and Beijing then struck a largely stalled trade deal.
In its judgment delivered in mid-September, the DSB stated that "the measures at issue are inconsistent" with various articles of the GATT (ancestor of the WTO), and recommended "that the United States bring its measures into conformity with its obligations".
Reacting to the verdict of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body, the Trump administration deemed the organization "totally inadequate" to end China's trade practices, deemed unfair.
This judgment was eagerly awaited as it is one of the first WTO verdicts on the trade war.
