Another achievement for the Israeli cultural world: Richard stars in an English-speaking remake of "Longing" by Shavi Gavizon.

The director is also directing the international remake, which is currently filming in Canada.

"Longing", released at the end of the previous decade, deals with a man who discovers that he had a son - only after the offspring's death.

This leads him on a journey of self-discovery.

In the original, the main role was played by Shai Avivi, who will now get to see the "Beautiful Woman" star step into his shoes.

The film was not as successful in Israel as Gavizon's previous works, for example "Shoro" and "Lovesick in Housing C", but won the Ophir Award for the best screenplay, was screened at the Toronto Film Festival and was successful in Venice, and is now receiving further recognition.

"To work with a great and special actor like Richard Gere - it's a dream come true," said Shavi Gavizon to the international media.

Gir is no stranger to Israeli cinema, and already starred alongside Lior Ashkenazi in Yosef Sider's "Norman".

It should also be noted that high-profile English-speaking adaptations of Israeli films are not common.

The list is quite short and includes, among other things, "The Kindergartener" starring Maggie Gyllenhaal, which was based on a film of the same name by Nadav Lapid.
