The Excellence and Creativity Authority is preparing for the National Championship for the World Robot Olympiad “WWO” for the year 2021, to be held next August under the title (Future of Energy), which will witness the addition of a new competition, a competition for the Future Engineers category for the age group between 15 and 19 years.
During its annual meeting today, the Authority’s management reviewed with the trainers and heads of robot clubs in Syria the conditions and categories for applying to the championship and the mechanism for supporting those admitted to its three competitions (regular, open and future engineers), which aim to design robots to solve issues in the shortest possible time about the future of energy and how to invest its renewable resources such as wind, water and sun .
The head of the scientific committee for robotics in the authority, Dr. Muhib al-Naqri, stated in a statement to the media that the championship is witnessing strong competition with the increase in the number of teams participating in it year after year, pointing out that the goal of today's meeting is to introduce robotics clubs in Syria, estimated at about 50 clubs within universities and schools, with the championship scheduled for this This year, on the 7 and 8 of next August, amid commitment to measures to address the Corona epidemic.
Al-Naqry stated that this tournament is eligible to participate in the World Robot Olympiad finals that will be organized by Germany remotely this year during next November.
In turn, a member of the Scientific Committee for Robotics in the Excellence and Creativity Authority, Dr. Shadi Bitar, stated that the championship for this year will include a new competition, which is the Future Engineers category competition for ages from 15 to 19 years in which an artificial intelligence issue within the field of robotics is proposed in which the participant builds an autonomous vehicle that is able to identify And the use of traffic lights and complete the road as quickly as possible.
Dr. Bitar revealed the study of the issue of establishing a national university competition for robotics in order to target undergraduate and postgraduate groups that include masters related to robotics and industrial automation, indicating that it is useful to highlight them and link them with industry and reconstruction in the country.
Each club selects for the competition according to the president of the middle category referees, instead of Halawa, the best students to participate in the competition, as each team includes three students and a trainer, while the judges are chosen through a practical and theoretical test to explore their ability to arbitrate and the competitors participating in the national championship are divided according to their age groups into four categories, which are the primary category From 10 to 13 years old, the middle class from 13 to 16 years old, the upper class from 16 to 19 years old, and the future engineers category from 15 to 19 years old.
