“When we talk about reserves, there are often concerns.
But this is not a cover, warns Kamel Chibli from the outset, president of the Regional Natural Park (PNR) of the Ariège Pyrenees.
Almost three years after the creation of the Pyrenean park of the Three Nations with Andorra and Catalonia in Spain, the PNR is in fact preparing a dossier for the Unesco “world biosphere reserve” label, which it would like to submit in 2022.
“The final objective is to go further in cross-border cooperation and extend the label to the Parc des Trois-Nations.
But for that, each country must present a file ”, details Lucile Chamayou, in charge of this project within the PNR.
If the project is successful, it would be the fifth space, globally, to bring together three countries.
"Better understand the richness that surrounds us"
Concretely, this recognition should make it possible to promote an economic and social development respectful of the environment, in connection with the population.
"Some may be afraid that there are more regulations or bans, but this is not the case," reassures Lucile Chamayou.
The ambition of the PNR, which already works in close collaboration with the professionals of the territory, is above all to gain visibility and develop actions, particularly in the area of tourism.
“It is an additional tool of attractiveness, adds Kamel Chibli.
The enhancement of the territory, of its heritage.
This will help us better understand the wealth that surrounds us.
"Or how to try to combine protection and development of the Pyrenees, beyond the borders.
