In addition to the infection, the party on the Balearic island of Ibiza has recently gotten out of control: Now the local authorities want to use private detectives to take rigorous action against illegal celebrations.
The foreign investigators disguised as tourists are supposed to "find the parties before they begin" through contact with invited guests, said the local government spokesman Armando Tur, the AFP news agency.
This means that the police can be there and intervene before the celebration begins.
The detectives must be "between 30 and 40 years old, have high purchasing power" and "look like tourists," Tur said.
A detective agency has already been "commissioned" to recruit appropriate investigators for August.
Only professionals are used, emphasized Tur, who had already received speculative applications from "several European countries".
Local media had previously reported the search for temporary investigators.
The island, known for its extensive parties, is one of the hotspots of the new coronavirus wave in Spain.
According to local media, around 100 new corona cases were recently reported daily, the 14-day incidence was last over 1700 and thus higher than on any other Balearic island.
However, it must be taken into account that the incidences only refer to the reported island inhabitants.
The incidences are therefore very high due to the cases brought in by visitors.
Government spokesman sees "real mafiosi" behind parties
While the island's famous nightclubs are closed, there are always private parties that, according to Tur, sometimes gather more than 500 guests.
They take place "very often in country houses" and are organized by "real mafiosi".
They would charge “up to 100 euros entry” and look for their guests outside of the bars or in online networks.
Because of the spread of the virus, Ibiza banned all nightly non-household meetings in late July.
