After Mars had to recall various types of ice cream in several EU countries, Germany has finally followed suit.
Unterhaching - As previously reported, Mars had to start a recall for different types of ice cream in various EU countries.
The reason for this was the detection of large amounts of ethylene oxide in locust bean gum (E410).
In Germany, however, the affected batches were allowed to remain on the market.
But that is the end of it: Mars has now started the recall of all affected varieties for Germany as well.
At first Mars would have decided against the recall because the concentrations of the gas could only be detected in very small quantities.
Ethylene oxide is a poisonous, highly flammable gas.
It can also be carcinogenic and mutagenic for humans.
This is mainly used for disinfection in the food industry.
The use of this substance is actually banned in the EU.
Recall due to ethylene oxide: These are the affected products
Under pressure from organizations such as the consumer association and Foodwatch, the affected ice cream flavors have already been withdrawn from the markets in other countries.
It was first withdrawn from trading in Austria, the Netherlands and France.
Mars was also active in Romania and Sweden.
Now it was decided to take the following products from the supermarkets in Germany as well:
Snickers Ice cream
bar pack sizes one and six with expiry dates October 31, 2022, November 30,
2022, January 31, 2023, March 31, 2023 and April 30, 2023.
In addition, the six-pack February 28, 2023 and the single pack December 31 2022.
Snickers Crisp Ice cream
bar is pack sizes one and six with
best-before dates
November 30, 2022, December 31, 2022, February 28, 2023 and April 30, 2023.
Snickers White Ice cream bar
pack sizes one and six of the expiry dates December 31, 2022 and February 28, 2023 are affected, and for the six-pack also March 31, 2023.
Bounty Ice cream bar
with the six-pack back the best before dates February 28, March 31, April 30, December 31, 2022 and February 28, March 31 and April 30, 2023.
For single packs, the best before dates are February 28, April 30, 2022, October 31, 2022 and December 31, 2022, February 28, 2023 and April 30, 2023.
Twix Ice cream bar
is about the
best before dates
October 31 and December 31, 2022 as well as February 28
, March 31 and April 30
2023 for the six-pack. March 31, April 30, 2022 and December 31, 2022 for the single-pack February 28 and April 30, 2023.
