The city of Taranto in southern Italy (Puglia Italy, YouTube)

Italian towns where houses are sold at an incredible price of just one euro are no longer so rare, but now it is surprising to find that this dream can be fulfilled even a relatively short distance from the capital Rome - a matter of about an hour and a half drive.

The Travel and Leisure website reports that the town of Maenza, which has about 3,000 inhabitants, is located in the Lepini hills area and currently offers several dozen buildings that have been abandoned over time.

All this, at prices that start as stated in one euro.

The town, known for its pleasant and pastoral atmosphere, is home to beautiful stone houses, mostly olive trees and spectacular views of the nearby sea.

At its heart rises an ancient castle from the 13th century, and next to it there are resorts, both on the beaches and on the mountain ranges.

Of course, Manza is not the first Italian town to offer houses for sale at a nominal price, but unlike other cases published in the media, the town's breadwinners' mission is not to rehabilitate a settlement whose population is aging or whose young people have left it.

"This is not a dying city," says Mayor Claudio Sephardotti.

"People still live in the old quarter, but it definitely needs renovation, fresh oxygen flow."

Cheap renovation, perfect vacation

Sephardotti added that their goal is to save important assets that are no longer in use, so that they will not be harmed by the neglect and the ravages of time.

"And if someone is interested and does not find what they are looking for through our website, just send an email to the municipality. We are eager to work with investors."

The town hopes to find new owners for about 100 properties.

It was further stated that the new owners will not be required to actually reside in the town.

In other words, you can buy a holiday home in an accessible location to Rome International Airport.

The mayor also said that some of the houses need a relatively inexpensive renovation, at a level of about 5,000 euros.

According to him, the houses themselves are not large, so the renovation costs will be reasonable.

One way or another, the buyers are required to renovate the selected house within three years from the date of purchase, as well as to deposit 5,000 euros in the municipality, which will be returned upon completion of the renovations.

If you are in the business of escaping to Italy without investing a lot of money - this could definitely be a great opportunity.
