Freshly washed clothes not only smell nice, you also feel much more comfortable in them.
However, you shouldn't overdo it with washing.
If you are particularly clean, you usually put your laundry back in the washing machine after you have worn it once.
After all, not every type of stain is visible and clothes often smell of sweat.
But is it really good to put every item of clothing straight back into the wash?
In some cases, washing too often is counterproductive.
Jeans in the washing machine?
According to experts, completely unnecessary
Jeans are a must in almost every wardrobe and are worn by many Germans almost every day - but is that why you put your trousers in the washing machine?
No way, says Levi's boss Chip Berg.
In his opinion, jeans only lose their
fit and color
when they are washed
.
Instead, it is sufficient to simply
hang
the pants
in the fresh air or to put them in the freezer overnight
.
After that, musty smells should have disappeared.
However, one expert recommends washing the jeans at least every four weeks - just to be on the safe side.
Don't wash too often: your pajamas
You wear your pajamas every night, but most of the time you don't put them on until you have
just come out of the shower
and lounged on the couch for a few more hours at the most.
Because of this, pajamas often don't get as dirty as other items of clothing.
Here it is completely sufficient to wash the sleeping gown only once a week.

Wash bra: not as often as expected
The bra does not necessarily have to be put into the wash every day.
It is often enough
to clean
it
after wearing
it
four times
- or once or twice a week, depending on how much you sweat.
Waistcoats and sweaters: that's why you don't have to do the laundry that often
Vests, but also sweaters, are usually
worn over other items of clothing
.
This is why you usually don't get so dirty and sweat stains stay away.
Here it is enough to wash the clothes after they have been worn two or three times.
Also, pay attention to the material: synthetic fabrics make you sweat more, so they have to be washed more often.
Cotton and wool, on the other hand, withstand the smell of sweat longer.

When should clothes be put in the laundry?
In general, when deciding whether an item of clothing has to be
washed,
you should be guided by the
degree of
soiling
, as Rainer Stamminger, professor of household and process engineering at the University of Bonn, explains to the online portal Bento. So it means: "What is not soiled, it is best not to wash it." Not
only obvious stains
, such as from food, but also "invisible" dirt - from sweat, for example -
are considered dirty
. This is especially the case with underwear.
If possible, items of clothing should not be put in the washing machine too often: "
Every wash cycle is a burden on the clothes,
" explains Stamminger. "Parts of the fibers can break off, the fibers lose their strength. If you have washed a T-shirt 50 times, for example, you notice that the
internal structure is lost
."
If there are no obvious stains, it is often enough to simply ventilate your clothes in the garden or on the balcony.
The
dryer is also a good alternative
: "There are often refreshing programs in which the items of clothing are moved under steam for about a quarter of an hour. This removes unpleasant odors without damaging the fibers mechanically," reports the expert.
