(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, 11 FEB - Thousands of people participated in various Iranian cities in the celebrations of the "victory day of the Islamic revolution" on the 43rd anniversary of the deposition of the Shah of Persia Reza Pahlavida part of the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini movement.
Demonstrations have been organized in 1,500 cities and over three thousand villages, as reported by the Irna agency, and for the second consecutive year the celebrations are held mainly with cars and not on foot as a preventive measure for Covid.
According to the Isna agency, American and Israeli flags were burned during the demonstrations that recall 11 February 1979 when the revolutionaries led by Khomeini, a few days ago returned to Iran after a 14-year exile in France,
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi recalled the motto of the 1979 revolutionaries "No to the West, no to the East" in a speech to protesters before going to Friday prayers at Tehran's Great Mosque.
"The victory of the Islamic revolution created a civilization to give contemporaries the possibility of obtaining true happiness," said the ultra-conservative president, arguing that the values of the Islamic revolution are still "dominant" today.
